Think about food (high quality food) before anything else.

 

If you are going out for a few drinks, eat a nutritious, low carb/high protein meal beforehand. You will get plenty of carbs in your drinks. Going to a party satiated will curb the likelihood of nibbling on high carb, low nutritious snacks at the party.
