‘Happy Skiing! But…a word to the wise…’ By Faye Burge, Senior Physiotherapist at Physio4Life

A word to the wise…

For all you delightful Londoners that are desk based for 360 odd days of the year please spare a thought for your body if you intend on skiing this winter.  Tis the season to be jolly, socialise and start (if you haven’t already) thinking about winter training.  Skiing is one of the most challenging endurance sports in the world and injuries post festive flurry can be enough to put you out of action until May! From the heli drop skier to the human cannon ball (not to dissimilar to my own technique), training must be a priority for you.  Your training can be broken down into cardio, strength and conditioning, balance and proprioception (where your body is in space) and core.  Information regarding each of these elements can be found at Physio4life from our PT Dan to team Pilates Catia and Rob. Prior to your trip our Physio team are available to iron out any pre existing niggles and aid you on injury prevention with preventive programs so you don’t lose a day on the powder.

Happy skiing.  Know your limits (not applied to après ski!) and if you haven’t trained all year dust off the cobwebs and pay us a visit! It’s time to get moving.
