Myofascial Release is a highly effective manual therapy that can assist with both acute and chronic pain. The treatment’s approach is to focus on any restrictions in the fascia system of the body. This effective technique can be used as a standalone therapy or incorporated into a massage treatment.
Fascia is the soft tissue component of connective tissue that provides support and protection for most structures within the human body, including muscle. Fascia in its healthy state is strong, flexible and housed in a fluid like ground substance. Restrictions in this tissue caused by stress, trauma, repetitive strain and inflammation create dehydration of the fluid-like ground substance causing extreme tension and compression in the body. As the fascia tissue restricts, there is a loss of fluidity and normal function, pain and limited movement follow. Symptoms show up in the body in various ways: back pain, neck pain, headaches, carpel tunnel syndrome, pelvic pain, scoliosis, chronic pain and fatigue. Myofascial Release Therapy clears these restrictions allowing the body to return to its natural state, facilitating postural balance and relief from painful symptoms.
