Working from Home?
As we adjust and readjust to the new COVID rules, working from home has become the new normal for those who can. However, the home set-up can be far from ideal than our ‘ergonomically assessed’ desk at our work office with our wrist supports, supportive chairs and breaks to go discuss something with a colleagues but it is actually a welcome excuse to stretch off tightness muscles and mobilise stiff and achey joints. As our bodies try to adapt to our new working environment it is therefore not unusual for some of us to experience upper back and neck tension, low back ache, repetitive strain of the wrist, to name a few.
The body has an incredible ability of adapting so that we can keep doing what we love to do but like most things there is a limit. When we have exhausted all means of adaptability pain will present itself and what started off as insidious niggle has now turned into a bigger complaint and one that prevents you getting on with your day-to-day activities – in an essence the straw that broke the camel’s back. Early intervention is key in the initial stages of the tissue healing process for a better prognosis for common mechanical musculoskeletal problems.
Osteopathy can help with restoring balance back to the body so it’s able to cope with the daily stresses we ask of it. Through a detailed consultation and taking a holistic approach, osteopaths will assess, diagnose and treat a wide range of health problems using a variety of manual therapy techniques (where appropriate) such as soft tissue massage, joint articulation and/or high velocity low amplitude thrusts (aka manipulations) as well as provide advice around prevention and self-management.
So what are you waiting for? Don’t let that ache, tension, stiffness niggle in the background. Break away from your ‘Work from Home’ desk and find freedom in movement.
